Loving the Nokia 8800 Arte

Monday, June 30th, 2008

The 8800 Arte encapsulates all that is special about Nokia. Compared to some of the more popular mobile phones for the price the 8800 Arte is quite fairly well featured. The Nokia 8800 Arte is a very well designed phone with a cutting edge feel to it.

In terms of the the display the phone is fitted with a 2 inch screen, which is a bit disappointing taking into consideration alternatives for the cost of this phone. The screen is a OLED, 16M colors. Preventing Repeat Form Submission Using PHP Sessions

    Sunday, June 29th, 2008

We’ve all seen those messages on some websites warning not to click a button more than once or negative consequences, like paying a bill twice, may result. Sometimes we can cause these problems by hitting the back or refresh buttons. In this article I will explain a methodology whereby a site can ensure each form is submitted only once, thereby demonstrating that such warnings are unnecessary and, depending on the nature of the problems caused, worth repairing immediately.
Let’s begin by taking a look at the process we are studying: Form Submission. As pedantic as it may seem, it will be worthwhile to detail each of the steps in this process:

    1. Visitor requests a page from the server which has a form on it.
    2. Server retrieves form and sends to user.
    3. User enters data on form and submits to server.
    4. Server processes form data and returns resultant page.

The scenario we now need to analyze is when the user re-triggers a previous form submission process. What we need to find or create is something which changes during the form submission process which does not depend on the specific form being submitted and which we can tell changed. That was a loaded sentence which fully details our solution, so let’s break it down. Find or create something which

    1. changes during the form submission process,
    2. does not depend on the specific form being submitted, and
    3. we can tell changed.

Since the item which changes does not depend on the form being submitted (e.g. it doesn’t matter if it’s a newsletter registration form, customer signup form, payment form, etc.), the item is not something which already exists and therefore must be created, so let’s create a form variable called submissionId and assume it has the 3 properties mentioned above. So far, so good — or so it appears! The third “property” is that “we can tell [it] changed”, but “changed” is not a property of a variable, so we need to look at this more closely. In order to tell something changed, we must have a reference point, an answer to the question “changed from what?” This is where a session variable will come into play. If we define a session variable, say $_SESSION['nextValidSubmission'] and treat it as a reference point, we will have all of the tools necessary to protect our visitors. The idea will be to keep the session variable updated with the last submissionId sent out and change the submissionId each time it is sent out to the user. Then, if they try to resubmit the data, they will be submitting an old submissionId which doesn’t match nextValidSubmission and we will know not to re-process this data.
Let’s look at this in terms of the processes:

    1. Visitor requests a page from the server which has a form on it.
    2. Server retrieves form, generates a new submissionId which is embedded into the form, updates nextValidSubmission, and sends to user.
    3. User enters data on form and submits to server.
    4. Server processes form data, changes nextValidSubmission, and returns resultant page.

Now, if the visitor somehow resends the data, they will be sending the old submissionId which will not match the new nextValidSubmission. So, you can now say goodbye to relying on javascript to remove/disable buttons, silly warning messages, and upset customers by preventing form re-submission.

Free Credit Reports: Get Yours Today!

    Saturday, June 28th, 2008

You may have seen the ads telling you where you can get copies of your consumer credit reports for free. Read the fine print and you will see that there is some sort of catch with these ads that will ultimately cost you money. You don’t need to pay for your reports no matter what someone else says. Let’s take a look at how you can really and truly get copies of your credit reports for free.

Thanks to an amendment made to the Fair Credit Reporting Act in 2003, Congress authorized the Federal Trade Commission to mandate that copies of your credit report be made available to you for free. Previously, in order to secure your report, you would have had to pay a fee. As of September 2005, residents of all fifty states are now eligible to obtain a free copy of their credit report from Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax once per year.

So, why were the reports made available at no charge to consumers? Well, even though all three companies operate independently from the government, combined they carry so much weight in determining your credit standing – and your very livelihood – that a decision was made that everyone should have access to their personal reports on demand. Furthermore, since a significant number of these reports have been determined to contain errors, consumer advocates insisted that you shouldn’t have to pay to correct someone else’s mistakes. Enter the Fair Credit Reporting Act as amended in 2003.

There are several ways you can order your free credit reports, but there is only one web site that will give you your reports for free: www.annualcreditreport.com. Again, only this one site acts on behalf of Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union to give you your reports to you for free.

You can also call the following toll free number to order your free credit reports:
    1-877-322-8228

If you wish, you can place your request in writing after downloading and filling out a form found online at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/include/requestformfinal.pdf. If you choose this method, you will need to mail the form to:

    Annual Credit Report Request Service

    P.O. Box 105281

    Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

For more information about the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Federal Trade Commission, please visit the following site: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/freereports.htm

When ordering your reports you can also request your FICO score. Unlike your free credit report, you will pay a small fee – typically between $5 and $7 – to get your score. If you elect to learn your score you can use a credit card to pay for your transaction. The three national credit reporting bureaus may also attempt to sell other services to you while you are checking off the information for your free credit report. These services include alerts, but you probably won’t need them. If you select some of the other offers, you will be charged for the service, so be careful what you pick.

Currency Trading – Big Profit Opportunities For The Week Ahead

    Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Please find below currency trading opportunities for next week based upon the same style of analysis we recently published to catch the big moves in energies.

There look to be some great opportunities in the currencies this week, so let’s look at some of the major currencies and the best ones to focus on for Monday.

Dollar getting short – With good risk reward

The dollar primary trend is down against the majors with the exception of the Yen.

While the primary trend is down, we have had a good bounce but it looks like it could run out of steam and this will be a good time to enter new dollar shorts.

As per usual were using charts and three indicators the stochastic, the Bollinger band and RSI and you can get some great free charts at futuresource.com

    Get confirmation before trading

Don not try and predict the moves, always wait or confirmation of short term momentum shifting to the upside by using the stochastic indicator to time market entry.

    Currency trading opportunities

    The Euro

The primary trend is up and the sort term trend is down

We favour the long side and would look to key off the 1.24 level

Watch for stochastic momentum to turn up with bullish divergence above or at this level to initiate longs into the market.

If prices can steady resistance is at the mid bollinger band, if this and the recent double top gives way look for an advance to the highs.

    RSI 44

    The Dollar Index

The primary trend is down and short term trend is up

Resistance is at the 88.00 level. Look for a selling opportunity into this level.

Stochastic momentum is up, but is overbought look for selling opportunity into this level and sell on stochastic crossing to the downside with bearish divergence. Dont jump to soon, wait for confirmation.

    RSI 58

Comment: This is a trade we like and we will be looking to get short as soon as short term mometum falls.

    The Yen

The primary and short term trends are down and prices are looking to test the critical 86 level.

A test of these lows looks imminent and traders should go with market action by selling a break of the lows.

If prices, however steady at these levels and hammer out support take a stochastic crossover as a signal to go long for a quick pop to the upside.

We would not try and trade this move and would wait on the sidelines for now

    RSI 30.48

    The British Pound

Primary trend is up and the sort term trend is down.

Key off current levels and look for the 1.80 level to provide strong support.

Watch for downside momentum to ease and time entry on stochastic crossover to the upside with bullish divergence.

    RSI 39

    The Canadian Dollar

The primary trend is up and the short term trend is down.

The dollar advance is looking like it will run out of steam and resistance is at the 8900 level, which is the bottom of the recent channel.

    RSI 43

This is a great long term trend and we are keen to go long and with the dollar index is our favorite trade of the week.

We have covered other majors but these two are our favorites while we are keen to be long the CD and short the DX we need to see price momentum shift in our favor and will watch closely for short term strength to enter. As per usual, don’t jump to soon.

Microsoft Has A Plan For The Xbox 360

    Thursday, June 26th, 2008

In an interesting article from Fool.Com entitled “Why the Xbox 360 Is a Loser,” author Seth Jayson points out that the Xbox 360 is costing Microsoft big money. The article discusses how the Xbox 360 is part of a much larger plan that, if successful, will eventually lead to profits.

It is no secret; Microsoft is losing money and lots of it on the Xbox 360. Microsoft’s home-and-entertainment division has already lost $293 million on $1.57 billion in sales. And as Jayson points out, the more popular the console becomes, the greater the loss.

“Make no mistake: For now, and for the foreseeable future, the Xbox 360 is going to cost Microsoft money. The consoles are sold at a loss, and the costs of launching the new system will continue to grow. The more popular the Xbox 360 becomes, the bigger the losses will be.” commented Seth Jayson in his article.

The reason being is two fold. Microsoft is in a “marathon, not a sprint” to beat Sony (PS3) and more importantly, to be #1 in the yet undefined home media PC market.

Down the road Microsoft will be able to build revenue from video game sales, entertainment purchases, license fees, Internet advertising, and revenue from developing products for your living room

But for the time being, the loss has investors wondering if the media giant is moving in the right direction.

Only time will tell whether-or-not the long term plan will pay off. To be successful, Microsoft will have to depend on many factors, with one of the most important being, plenty of 3rd party support.

Self Employed Is A State Of Mind

    Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Being self employed is typically thought of as working in your own business, as opposed to working for someone else’s business. However, you can start working for yourself today, even if you are working in someone else’s business. It all a matter of perspective.

You are an employee when you are working for someone else, but you don’t have to think of yourself in that way. Think of yourself as self employed. Even if you’re flipping burgers, you’re in the business of selling your labor, right? And business people think differently than employees.

The word “employee” often carries connotations of slavery, as in the expression “wage slave.” It is associated with a loss of control, a sense that the “boss” is the one calling the shots. What an awful thought! There is a better way.

    Be In Business Starting Today

My employers have never been more than customers to me. If I dodn’t like the terms or price, I negotiate or go elsewhere. There are opportunities everywhere, after all. This attitude has meant I’ve never felt trapped in a job I didn’t like. I look at jobs as business opportunities, and choose the best one at any given time. If my own business is a better one, as it is now, then I do that.

Ther is nothing sadder than bitter workers who feel cheated and dependent on an employer. I have had terrible employers, but they never made me bitter. In any business you sometimes work for customers you don’t like, if the pay is worth it.

Many years ago I worked at a casino. As a reservation casino they could get away with not paying minimum wage. With the tips, we made good money, in fact more than any of the five other casinos in the state. Most of the workers were bitter, though, because the employer wasn’t doing what they were “supposed to do.”

They had their employee mentality, and so felt cheated. As a businessman, I could look at it objectively and see they were paying more than other potential buyers of my labor. They certainly were a “problem customer” in many respects, but I chose to do business with them, so I couldn’t feel bitter about it.

    How To Be Self Employed

It helps to have money in the bank. “Wage slavery” is only true to the extent that you’ve put yourself into that position. It takes only a few weeks to find another customer for your labor. Anytime you feel you can’t quit your job tomorrow, you’re probably not arranging your financial affairs properly. Any smart businessman plans for ups and downs.

Here is what you need to do to support your new perspective: put a little money aside, keep out of bad debt (only debt that produces income or profits is good debt) and keep your fixed expenditures low. Take responsibility today for your choices. You are in business, selling labor, skills and knowledge.

You are opening your mind to the possibilities of better jobs and business activities. These are nice advantages, but not the best reason to adopt this attitude. You see, even if you stay at your job for thirty years, you will feel free, and not dependent. This is YOUR business decision, and the freedom that comes with this acceptance of responsibilty is the best reason to take this perspective. Starting today, you are self employed.

Weight Loss: Customize, Personalize, Spice up!

    Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

You know you have weighted, err, waited more than enough. So you decide to get yourself started on some weight loss programs and regimens. In all likelihood you would draft yourself with the ones that promise you sure-hit quick weight loss tips.

So you sweat and strain with your chosen weight loss program, perhaps ecstatically so at the start. Sure your body gets all aching with all your joints and knuckles cracking in epic proportions like ungreased door hinges of horror movies.

Looking at yourself in the mirror, you cringe at the sight of this blob staring back miserably at you still with the extra flabs flapping around somewhere there. You sigh in exasperation. Whatever happened to the weight loss program that promised to sculpt your body to whistle-bait shape? You scream in desperation. You know you have just been weigh-layed, err again, way-laid by some pseudo weight loss masters.

Truth is, we tend to pattern our weight loss mindset after the mentality of that of some backyard gym instructors. We torture ourselves with the age-old dictum “No pain, no gain.” Let’s face it, while it did miracles for Rocky, it sure did get him crippled (or, killed) in the final picture.

We are no Rocky. We are ordinary human beings with not-so-ordinary day-to-day affairs. Some are multi-tasked like the housewife who has to master doing diapers in one hand, pitching copies in the other, while applying tantric massage on her hubby with her feet. All throughout she is troubled between going for weight loss surgery and taking weight loss pills.

“No pain, no gain” is foolishly macho and downright false. Of course, there’s bound to be some discomfort when you’re just getting started with your own weight loss program, and later when you start to reach out for new weight loss goals.

But there’s an important difference between discomfort and pain. Learn it. Listen to your body say, “Moderation in all things.” Pain means injury. Pain makes you quit the weight loss program.

If you don’t like your chosen program of weight loss exercises, you won’t stick with it. It will become a chore, you’ll slack off and finally give up the entire weight loss program. Tailor your weight loss exercise to yourself, not to what others do or to some false image generated from within or without. Of course when you’re just getting started, weight loss may seem like a chore. But appearances are not always reality. Realize that your body and mind would always prefer being a couch potato, and will rebel at the thought of exertion in the weight loss program, so you’ve got to give any form of exercise a chance to grow on you before you start analyzing whether it’s for you or not! The key is to turn weight loss exercise into play, then you’ll succeed and persist. Lack of joy makes you quit.

So spice up your own program of weight loss exercises by customizing it according to your our own weight loss needs. Variety is still the spice of weight loss. You should’nt be satisfied just with pounding the pavement or sweating in a gym. Variety makes you learn how much you’re capable of. Play around, pick and choose, experiment with your own customized personal weight loss program.

Whatever weight loss exercises you choose from the following, try to get your heart rate up to about 70 percent of your safe maximum. You can do that by using this formula: 220 minus your age equals your Maximum Safe Heart Rate. Keep it at this rate for a solid half-hour. Don’t go over the 85 percent rate for more than a couple of minutes at a time. Of course, heart rate doesn’t figure into strength builders such as weigh lifting.

Note : The calories-burned figures that follow are for a 110-pounder. A 154-pounder should add on another 28 percent to that number, while a 198-pounder should add 55 percent.

Walking : Calories burned at 2 mph is 145 per hour; 3 mph is 235 per hour; at 5 mph is 435 per hour.

Jogging : Calories burned at 5mph is 530 per hour which is roughly about a 12-minute mile.

Jumping Rope : Calories burned is 600 calories per hour.

Swimming : At 30 yards per minute (about one lap of an Olympic-size pool), calories burned is 330 per hour.

Water-walking : Calories burned is 360 per hour in a fast game.

Bicycling : Calories burned at 10 mph is 390 per hour.

Aerobic Dancing : For low impact, calories burned is 240 per hour and for moderate impact, 350 per hour.

Square Dancing : Calories burned is 350 and up – way up! – per hour.

Table Tennis : Calories burned is 450 hour.

Rowing : Calories burned is 600 per hour.

Cross-country skiing : Calories burned at 10 mph is 600 per hour.

Weight Lifting : Calories burned is 250 per hour.

Martial Arts : Calories burned is 620 per hour.

You really won’t know what you like unless you try it. And if you haven’t tried it don’t knock it. Try mixing gardening with walking, housework with rowing, bicycling with weight lifting, dancing with martial arts, table-tennis with cross-country skiing, outdoors with indoors, team sports with solitary sports. Without variety, humans get bored and stale. They stop reaching. Boredom makes human beings quit.

Bond together two of men’s greatest quests and what you’ve got is a mania we term a Web sportsbook. Can you imagine anything that could imaginably be more original. If you envisage a clique of fellas cheering on a favored local sports club, and all the time stakes are pinned down along with the bluster. Wanting to get their share of the excitement, on-lookers repeatedly seek to guess who will win in the impending game. First of all, there is the spread, in other words advantage in points tallied to the disadvantaged team assumed to be defeated by a set number points. Plainly, this comprises the odds maker’s calibrated form of organizing even bets for a sportsbook. To give an example a customer may bet on a party assumed to be defeated and and still make money on the wager assuming that the team does actually get defeated by a set number of points. You’ll find plenty of miscellaneous manners of antes: straight, teasers, which are comparable to to parlays, only you may subtract or add points from the distribution to hedge your wagers, and plenty more, the straight bets being the most prevalent in sportsbook gambling.

    Credit Management Services

    Friday, June 20th, 2008

There are two types of credit management services – one for businesses and one for individuals. Let us find out what each type means.

Credit management services for companies and business owners

Some companies need credit management services to effectively collect payables from clients. A lot of credit management companies offer discreet and courteous cash flow management and collection of your overdue and current accounts. These companies are trained not only to collect, but also to maintain healthy relationships between businesses and their customers.

Aside from increasing a business’ receivables, credit management companies also proactively prevent bad debts by instituting rules so that customers and clients pay on time. They also help improve a business’ customer service, so that it can collect its own receivables in the future.

    Credit management services for individuals

There are companies offering credit management services for individuals. These firms help those with bad credit get back on track to financial stability. Credit management services companies do this by ‘debt negotiation’ – they talk to the borrower’s creditors and come up with feasible ways to let the borrower pay pending debt comfortably.

Credit management services can usually be applied to all consumer loans, such as major credit card and department store credit card accounts, personal and signature loans, unpaid utility bills, outstanding medical bills and repossessed auto loans. Companies offering credit management services enable the borrowers to easily pay off their balances until a percentage of the total amount owed is reached. The company then negotiates with the creditors to pay off the borrower’s balances for a fraction of what is owed. In the end, the borrower saves thousands of dollars in interest and principal payments.

Most companies that offer credit management services offer ‘no obligation’ quotes for borrowers who are interested in more detailed information about the debt settlement services available to them.

Credit Management provides detailed information on Credit Management, Credit Debt Management Counseling, Credit Card Debt Management, Credit Management Services and more. Credit Management is affiliated with Credit Counseling Services.
