Only Band Merchandising Is Growing

Monday, August 11th, 2008

This last month merch.com, selling band t-shirts, said they have seen an increase in web users. This is great news as the economy is dropping really fast in the united states. When asked as to why the sales were up, the answer was simply put. “Basically no one has money to spend on gas, so then they want a shirt, they will buy it online”

Why would people spend money on shirts if they can’t even afford gas?

That is one of the interesting things about fans to a band, they will do anything to get the gear and merch that they want to wear to the concerts.

Why would fans afford concerts, if they can’t even afford gas to put in there car?

Again fans will go to any length to get into that concert for that band they love. That is one reason our sales are doing so well! See for many, going to a concert is the best way to relax after a horrible day at work or when you realize that this horrible economy is going to real to mess up your life goals.

All this has come together to create an environment were ecommerce is booming almost as fast as it was before the dotCOMbust in 99. I hope to see this trend grow as we all want to see more money flying around online.

Mp3 Player Basics – Finding the Right Mp3 Player

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Mp3 players are everywhere you look now, and it seems like everyone’s got one. People on tv, in movies, at school, on the bus, or even walking or running down the street. And the selections are endless. But with so many options it’s almost impossible to find the right mp3 player to suit your needs, especially if you don’t know what you’re needs are!

Do you know what kind of mp3 player you want?

This is where choosing the best mp3 player starts. You have to know what you’ll be using this mp3 player for. Do you want to workout with it at the gym? Use it for running laps? Do you want to be able to put your whole music collection on it? Or maybe you want to use it to hook up to your stereo system and play all your music without ever putting in a cd. Do you need something to pass the time for your work commute? Is something that can display pictures or play video files important to you? Do you want one of the flat out best mp3 players on the market? Or is price a factor in your purchase?

As you can see, there are a lot of factors that weigh into your decision to purchase an mp3 player. I’ll try to go over some of the basic ones here.

Flash vs. Hard Drive

Most mp3 players can be split into two categories. Flash mp3 players or hard drive mp3 players. Flash mp3 players tend to be smaller, lighter, and cheaper. They also store less music, but make up for it by being able to handle more activity. Running, biking over rough terrain…and things of that sort are where flash mp3 players really outshine hard drive players. Flash mp3 players are most useful while working out or when buying an mp3 player on a budget. They are also upgradeable. You can swap out the memory card for a larger one to store more music if you decide you want a bigger player down the road.

Hard drive mp3 players are mostly known as “jukeboxes”. Hard drive mp3 players are good for storing large music collections or as backup drives to store larger files(or with recent technological advancements…displaying pictures or playing videos). Hard drive players are great for taking away on extended trips or vacations. But hard drive mp3 players are pricey, and the more features they have, the more expensive they are. Though you are getting your based price per gig, the larger you go.

Features

Mp3 players have a variety of different features. From sound and audio options, to various play options. All mp3 players will also have different included software for downloading and managing music files, with some software packages being better than others. Things like battery life and included accessories may be important to you also, so make sure to check the specs of an mp3 player before purchasing it. Read some reviews and see if anyone has any negative things to say about it.

Some mp3 players will even allow you to rip CDs directly from an audio player to your mp3 player, no computer required. Players will also have different navigation types. Some using buttons, others using touch pads or click wheels. Some mp3 players come standard with an FM tuner, as well as digital voice and FM recording. Then there are players made specifically for sports use that come with lap timers and stopwatches and things of that nature. If any particlular feature is important to you, make sure the mp3 player you want has it(or can at least be bought as an accessory for it).

Price

If you’re looking to purchase an mp3 player for under $100 or so, flash mp3 players are going to be your best bet. Very few hard drive or larger file capacity mp3 players are available at that kind of price. But there is good news. With competition the way it is in the mp3 player market, older model mp3 players are always being made available at huge discounted prices, allowing you to save anywhere from $20 to $70 on some of the best mp3 players out there.

Brands

There are a lot of competing companies out there making mp3 players. Weeding out the top quality ones from the lesser ones isn’t always easy. Some of my favorites are Apple, Creative Labs, Sandisk, Rio, iRiver and Archos. There are others, such as Nike or iAudio and more, but these are the main contenders. The Apple iPod is by far the most popular, most pervasive, coolest, and also most expensive mp3 player brand out there. Whether the price of the iPod is worth it, is your choice. Just make sure you get a good sense of what other mp3 player brands are out there, and what each of them are like.

Conclusion

Finding the right mp3 player can be difficult sometimes. Knowing the answers to many of the questions asked in this article will make that search, and subsequent decision, easier for you. But don’t despair if this intro to mp3 players wasn’t enough for you. There are sites out there dedicated to helping you choose the right mp3 player. Happy hunting!

Understanding Depression

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Everyone can agree on the fact that depression is a debilitating disease. What we can’t all seem to agree on however, is what this disease does to a person’s ability to think reason and perceive. The problem in coming to an agreement here lies in the many causes and physical reactions to depression.

Common cause of depression include biochemical factors, severs stress, a sense of hopelessness, lack of sunlight and illogical thinking. The biochemical factors and sunlight are physical and environmental conditions that can be corrected with prescribed drugs or light exposure. What however can a person do about stress and feelings of hopelessness, and are these conditions causes of depression or symptoms of depression. It is within the confines of the medical profession that conversations such as this have raged for years.

Some researchers believe that stress and feelings of overwhelming hopelessness are the causes of depression, while others believe they are symptoms of depression. Research conducted supports both conclusions. Further studies have supported lent even more support to the evidence that stress, changes in expectancies, and irrational or hopeless thoughts are a result of depression, not a cause.

But what effect does depression have on our ability to think and reason? Do all our thoughts become illogical and negative? Not all depressed persons experience the same changes in their thoughts, but do all depressed persons experience some change in the thought process? Questions such as these are hotly debated even now, with all the wealth of information available to scientists and doctors. The brain is such a complex machine, that understanding of the processes and the ability to relate certain processes to the application of the masses is slow to come.

In general the depressed person sees the cup as half empty, not half full. That’s not to say that some of the population, without any evidence of depression will still see the cup as half empty. Can you see the difficulty of the situation here? There are many symptoms of depression that exist even within the thoughts of people with no evidence of depression. How do scientists and doctors distinguish, for the purpose of setting clear guidelines? I don’t believe they can.

I believe our thought process is like a fingerprint. Everyone’s is different in some way. No two people will be the same in their thoughts, or in their ability to act on those thoughts. Treatments for illogical and depressed thoughts will always be a tailor-made situation.

They’re Back…The Minuteman Cowboys

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Just like a bad penny that always seems to show up, guess who is back in the limelight soaking up the press that was diverted to more serious world-issues like hurricanes and wars: The Minuteman Project.[1]

So, let’s have a look-see, shall we, at what antics and hijinks they’ve been up to since we last spoke:

* July 2005: Former Texas and Goliad chapter president Bill Parmley, one of the group’s original organizers, said in a July interview that the group would conduct observation activities mostly on private land along a line stretching from Port Lavaca, through Victoria, on to Goliad, then following U.S. Highway 59 to a point near Laredo. Parmley resigned abruptly in late July alleging racism in the local chapter and a lack of organization on the national level. In subsequent interviews, Parmley stated the racism must run through to the national chapter since it had failed to take action against the Goliad group. “I have seen how they have not tried to carve the cancer out of the (Goliad area) group. I can only assume that (racism) is a part of their agenda,” Parmley said previously.[2]

* September 12, 2005: “The Goliad chapter of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps was dissolved today,” reported Goliad chapter president Kenneth Buelter in a brief e-mail sent to the Victoria Advocate on Monday evening. There was no additional explanation in Buelter’s e-mail.[3]

* Minuteman Civil Defense Corps of Texas president Al Garza quickly jumped into the spin game: “”(The e-mail) really doesn’t spotlight anything in particular,” Garza said. The e-mail simply said things weren’t working out, he added. As to Bill Parmley’s sudden resignation and accusations of racism in the group, Garza, who worked for more than 30 years as a private investigator, said he looked into the allegations and found them groundless. “It was merely a misunderstanding and misinformation,” Garza said, referring to the charges of racism.”[4]

Now isn’t that rich? Do you think that Garza has a wee bit of a bias in this “internal investigation” of his? And do you really think that the appeal to the authority, “who worked for more than 30 years as a private investigator”, constitutes proof for the claim that Parmely’s allegations was groundless?

It strikes me, how shall I say this nicely, suspicious the chain of events here. Let’s take another look:

* First, a “dyed-in-the-wool” Minutemanapparently one with a great deal of integrityresigns over racism in the group and its unwillingness to excise “the cancer out of the (Goliad area) group”.

* Second, two months later, the guy who took Parmley’s place, Kenneth Buelter, dissolves the same Goliad chapter without so much as a “by your leave”.

* Instead of an outside group, someone neutral and unbiasedwithout an anti-Mexican axe to grindinvestigating this Parmely’s allegation of racism, Garza proclaims the allegation as groundless.

What you didn’t see in the mainstream Fair and Balanced news coverage (besides everything I’ve written above) is that there is more to Bill Parmley’s resignation. There is more than meets the eye here, like most everything with The Minuteman Project.

“Bill Parmley, former coordinator for Texas, quit after alleging Simcox[5] botched the organization’s financing. He also warned that some members of his Goliad, Texas, chapter, which recently was shut down, were “racists” and “wanted to go after Mexicans as a whole,” not simply report undocumented immigrants to the U.S. Border Patrol.”

Note that phrase, “wanted to go after Mexicans as a whole”. I warned of this neo-populism in my columns months ago:

“J.C. Hernandez, a third-generation Texan, is the founder and president of Americans for Zero Immigration. Hernandez was working with Minutemen organizers in Texas and said he expected to play a leading role in the upcoming patrol. He also wants the right, he said, to make a citizen’s arrest of suspected illegal immigrants. “When you fight a war you don’t fight it with rhetoric,” Hernandez said. “When you fight a war, man, you go in and kill the enemy…. A signal has to be sent to Mexico and all those countries that we are tired of it and we’re not going to put up with it.”[6]

The Houston Chronicle reported:

“Parmley said he has become concerned that some of the Minuteman activists in his region have a vendetta against the Goliad County sheriff, who is Hispanic. He asserted they also have made comments about shooting illegal immigrants or letting them die from dehydration. That’s their mind-set, and I don’t want my name and my reputation associated with a group of people who are racist like that,” he said.”[7]

“We are not racists in any way, shape, form or fashion,”Minuteman Spin
