Conventional Putter or Long-Shafted Putter

Monday, October 20th, 2008

The big hitters will tell you that the girls dig the long ball. What about the long putter? While there is no evidence that the girls swoon over the long putter it certainly has proven its worth in gold on the PGA Tour in recent years.

Stewart Cink, who uses a belly putter, became the first player to top the TOUR’s putting stats with a non-standard-length putter in 2004.Tom Lehman posted four top-10 finishes in five events to finish the 2004 season after placing a long putter in his bag.

Where did this trend begin? In 2000, Paul Azinger won the Sony Open with a homemade belly putter.Paul was in the Putter Studio with Titleist’s chief putter designer Scotty Cameron a few months before the Sony. They analysed where the butt of the putter aims at address, during the backstroke, at impact, and during the forward stroke. It was found that the best putters keep the butt of the shaft aimed within a two-inch circle in the belly area during the stroke.Paul, thinking about the two-inch circle, made a putter by shoving a shaft down the shaft of his putter, and worked on anchoring the butt of the extended shaft into his belly. He made sure the putter was legal and the rest is history.

“According to Cameron, the belly putter puts the player in arepeatable position where mental memory can create muscle memory.Anchoring the putter helps eliminate unnecessary moving parts, like wandering the butt and flipping the head through impact, and it allows a controllable and repeatable stroke that creates a consistent arc.”

Cameron says, “I believe in the belly putter and I believe in the long putter.”The fastest growing segment of his putter business last year was belly putters. If nothingelse, it can be a good training aid to help feel where the butt of the putter should stay.It is a good way to feel the proper stroke if you are struggling.Check where the butt of you putter points by using a laser pointer or small flashlight while making a stroke in a mirror. If it is wandering more than the two-inch circle, you could probably benefit from using an anchored stroke. If you have a problem consistentlyhitting puttssolid including directional and distance issues, and a ball that hops, skips or just doesn’t roll pretty, you could probably benefit from a belly or long putter.

Your problems won’t go away just by buying a belly or long putter. As with all aspects of the game, it requires practice.Like anything it takes a lot of work to do extremely well and get to whereyour mindwill totally believe in it.

It is important to get properly fitted for a belly or long putter. You can’t just extend the shaft of your standard putter and expect it to work right. The head is too light and the shaft too flexable. The heads of belly and long putters are much heavier and have special shafts to handle the extra length and weight.

A simple to way to measure for a belly putter is to attach a string with a weight to the middle arch of a pair of glasses.Take the proper address position with the ball off the left heel or left instep, the shaft at 90 degrees with thesole of the putter flat on the ground and the butt touching your belly with medium pressure and see where the string hangs. The proper shaft length should put the string one inch on the inside of the ball.

As always the fundamentals still apply, starting with alignment.Alignment must be correct for the backstroke and forward stroke to follow. If alignment is bad, the other two will be bad also.

Now to the big question.Should everyone go out and switch to a belly or long putter?NO!If you are a good putter, don’t mess with it.In other words, “don’t fix what ain’t broken.”Most players would have a good or at least better stroke if they just allowed it to happen. We get in the way by trying to manipulate the putter on the right path and steering it to the hole.Just let the putter do the work.

Boss Guitar Pedals

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

If you are guitar player and you are in the process of deciding on which guitar pedals or guitar effects to buy, it can be a little tricky .

We all want to sound like ur rockstar idols but as we all know guitar effects can be very expensive and there are literally hundreds of them .

Before you buy a pedal you must decide first on your budget and what kind of music you want to play, is it heavy metal, contemporary rock, blues, and so on

If you play a little of everything you are better off with a guitar multi effect whereas you can adjust your sounds to the type of music you want to play, guitar multi effects are more expensive but are very versatile.

If you play one style of music lets say blues then you are better off buying a boss or dod guitar pedal which are less expensive .

We spend outrageous amounts of money on guitar effects just to have the right sound, but sometimes the sound were looking for can cost us a fraction of the price with a simple boss guitar pedal .

An Introduction to the Trampoline

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

The sport of trampolining reflects man’s age-old desire to defy gravity. The trampoline in its current form (a mat mounted on a steel frame) dates back to the early 1800, if newspaper reports are to be believed, when a circus in London displayed what it called the “trampoline jump.”

Since then, the word trampoline has been used to describe any elastic apparatus that includes jumping over obstacles or vertical jumps. Circuses have used a number of devices to show off aerial and floor somersault activity. George Nissen, the co-creator of the style of trampoline used in competitions, called his bouncing rig a Trampoline, and registered it as a trademark in 1936.

The modern trampoline has emerged in the last 50 years or so from the prototype apparatus built by George Nissen in his garage in 1936. Trampolines were soon introduced by the Air Force, and later by the space agencies to train their pilots and astronauts.

The most modern trampolines are capable of projecting an athlete up to 10 meters high and allowing him to perform triple somersaults with ease.

The sport spread to Europe in the 1950’s, and by 1960’s, many national federations were formed. In 1964, the International Trampoline Federation (FIT) was formed. Today, there are 42 member federations. The first FIT Handbook was introduced in 1983, and in 1987 the FIT News appeared, followed by the FIT Calendar in 1988.

Medical experts say jumping on trampoline is good for your health. Exercising on the trampoline lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that those who exercise at least three times a week have a higher bone mineral content.

Many athletes practice on a trampoline to enhance their motor skills and endurance, and to refine their aerial moves in a safe, controlled environment. Skiers, skaters, divers and gymnasts all use the trampoline extensively.

Jumping on a trampoline has emerged as a popular family activity for both adults and children.

7 Need to Know Campsite Cooking Strategies

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Are you sick and tired of not knowing what to bring or what to cook when you go camping? Do you either pack the entire kitchen (including the sink) or you bring the absolute minimum and then have to use a fork as a spatula or two spoons as tongs?

If that sounds even the slightest bit familiar then you are in the right place. Over the past decade or so I have refined a list of 7 things that I use every single time I prepare for my next camping trip.

These strategies are relevant whether you are car camping, primitive camping, RV camping, scout camping or large group camping. You can very easily apply them across any type of trip, which is what really makes them worthwhile.

So here they are:

1. Plan the Meals – Okay common sense right? Well If I didn’t include this as the first and most important item I would get hollered at! But seriously, if you don’t plan the meals ahead of time not only do you not know what you’re going to eat you also have no idea what to pack as far as cooking gear is concerned. Do you need a spatula or tongs? Do you need a strainer or a frying pan?

2. Plan the Gear – This follows directly from number 1. Now that you know what you are going to eat for the trip you can now figure out exactly what utensils, pots, pans, containers and other miscellaneous cooking gear you need. And more importantly what gear you don’t need! My family and I do a lot of tent camping which means that we take my wife’s SUV, so we have a very limited amount of room that we must pack all of our “stuff” into. If I only need a 2 quart pot and a small frying pan well guess what, the 9 other pots and 4 other frying pans stay at home!

3. Plan the Condiments – Have you ever went camping and once you get there you realize that you don’t have ketchup, mustard or relish for your nice, hot and juicy steakburger you just cooked for yourself? Have you ever went camping and it took you 10 minutes to find the garlic powder because it found it’s own way to the bottom of the box you keep all your spices in? There is a fine line between having too many spices/condiments and not having enough but you have to walk that line. Even if you have a 40 foot Class A Mega Super Duper Motor home, you only have so much space. Sit down and look at the recipe’s you are going to use and then figure out what spices/condiments you can bring and which ones to leave at home.

4. 10% Above – Get 10% more food then you think you should take. If your family usually eats 4 hamburgers, take 5 or 6. If they usually eat 6 pieces of Corn on the Cob take 8. I don’t know for sure what it is but whenever you go camping everybody seems to be HUNGRY all the time. It might be because they are running around doing more stuff or it might be something in the air, I don’t know.

5. KIS – Keep It Simple. Realize that you are going to be in the middle of the woods. Is it possible to cook a Rack of Lamb with Herb-Dijon Nut Crust, Parisienne Potatoes, Green Beans Wrapped In Carrot Ring and Pureed Sweet Potato Basket? Yes it is technically possible. Should you attempt it? Heck NO! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to plan 3 square of milk and cereal. I am saying to remember where you are going to be and the mostly primitive cooking tools you will have at your disposal.

6. Test Runs- If you are planning on cooking on a campfire, or using a new grill, or cooking in your RV for the first time on your next trip…Don’t Do It! Always, always, always do a test run at home before you get out there. Build a little fire in your backyard and figure out if you need some charcoal to bolster the wood fire and make it cook more evenly. Make sure you know how to hook up that new grill and where the hot spots are. It is really not a lot of fun to get out into the woods somewhere and burn your dinner to a crisp or have it sitting in the bottom of the campfire because of a “equipment malfunction”. So always do a test run.

7. Try a new Treat – Remembering strategy number 6, my family always tries a new treat whenever we go camping. Whether it be a new recipe for our green bean casserole or a naughty little after dinner snack, we try something new every time. This doesn’t have to mean something exotic that you’re not sure the animals would even like. Just look around on the internet, there are a ton of campfire / Dutch oven recipes out there for you to try.

Well that’s it, that’s my list of 7 Need to Know Campsite Cooking Strategies. This is not a wish-list or a group of things I pulled out of thin air. I use this list each and every time I plan a trip for my family, my friends and my troop. This list if used properly will keep you in good stead for your trips. You won’t run out of food, you won’t eat bland food, you won’t bring home a ton of unused and possibly spoiled food and most importantly dinner won’t be a chore while camping.

A guide to successful handicapping

Monday, October 13th, 2008

(1)Try to experiment on those lower division leagues like div 1 team to get familiarise with those teams.you need them for cups and when they were promoted the next season.

(2)Is there a difference with betting on the picks you derieved or just pure plain picks?

Ans:Yes.There would be a difference.Have you ever tried picking and seems to get almost every picks correct but the moment you bet on those picks the results would turn otherwise.I believed it to be the unseen pressure built within oneself when it involves real money. How to curb the problem?practise is the key.

My personal advice is to treat every matchday as an examination for yourself.Treat it as though as you are siting for an exam. The linesmaker as the person who sets the paper.

How do judge your own performance or monitor your progress?

(i)The most obvious ones are the no. of correct picks you could derieved.

(ii)The reflective stage- try to reveal the “what”,”how”,”why”,”when” When you lose.

(iii)Lastly, after derieving the factors ,monitor if you have Correctly discover the true meaning behind it by predicting again using the factors you derieved. If you have discover the true factors pertaining to that particular league/cup the results should be straight wins. There should not be mixed results scenario like 3 win 2 lose or 2 win 3 lose kind of thing.

(3)If however there are negative results repeat point(2) and reformaulate new factors.probably you have overlook on certain things, go through again or you have place in extra factors which is irrelevant to this particular league/cup try removing it maybe will results in positive results.

(4)Even, if you have got it right this season it doesn’t make it a winning formulae for the next season or yrs to come.Sad but is the truth the linesmaker is working hard against us and have not stop learning about gambler’s behaviour so you got to keep note of that too.Once you realise there is a shift.you could stop betting or if you can’t resit the temptation of betting try betting small to kill the itch. The key here is to be alert and be willing to change own handicapping methods when necessary.

(5)Try to expand on your area of expertise for instance you are gd at say english premeir league expand to other lg like german or france this will create a buffer incase the league you specialise in has a major shift in odds trends. The key is to have backup.

The good thing is however, the lines maker seldom changes the lines as long as there are fresh punters falling for their old tricks consider this if you are a teacher setting a paper for your students to sit, would you change the qns if your students keep failing.i doubt so unless they realised their qns/odds are ineffective.

A Bad Golfer And Comon Mistake You Will Find Every Time

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

Fascinatingly enough a bad golfer is consistent enough with his/her consistent mistakes and poor play, that it promotes even more bad golf and frustration.

Actually a bad golfer ignores or is unaware of what has to be the single most important aspect of the golf swing. This is the setup or positioning before the swing.

It does not matter how good your swing is and how much correct technique you have used. If you do not pay attention to your swing, you are a bad golfer and it will clearly show when you have hit the ball.

All great golfers are aware of how important the setup is and you can be sure that many bad golfers are not. If you setup correctly for a shot, chances are extremely high that you will hit a good shot. So important is your setup that even if you swing poorly in a good setup position, you are bound to at least hit a reasonable shot.

A good setup will enable you achieve a good posture and the sort of balance that will help you maintain balance and inevitably control throughout the shot.

The correct setup comes with correct training and even more important; exercising and conditioning of the muscles you use in your entire body for the swing. A bad golfer will more often than not be the sort of person who does not do golf-specific exercises aimed at improving their golf. The result is that they will not even be able to tell the difference between a good setup position and a bad one, simply because they will tend to feel uncomfortable in both.

It is amazing but true that all it takes to move you swiftly to the ranks of a good golfer from amongst the majority of bad golfers is a simple exercise routine, most of which you can even do from your office while you work.

7 Tips for the Advanced Bowlers

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Once you have mastered bowling’s fundamentals, you will find that there are many subtleties of the approach and delivery that still may be something of a mystery to you. Be heartened by the fact that even the most advanced bowling stars have scoring problems. Some of the most common of these are listed below:

1) ALLEY SENSE Bowlers too often “fight” the lane. The ball either hooks too much or it won’t hook at all, so try to adjust to lane conditions. If you feel you are releasing the ball properly and the ball still won’t hook, there are a number of adjustments you can make: a) move slightly to the right of your normal stance position; b) attempt to slow up the speed of your ball, thereby giving it more traction; and c) try changing your target to a point inside the second rangefinder.

You may move it in as far as the third rangefinder (from the right). Experience will show you the proper adjustment to make. If the ball is hooking too mucjh try one of the following: a) move your starting stance slightly to the left using your same target, b) try picking a spot further down the lane to use as your target, or c) increase the speed of your ball.

2) TEN-PIN LEAVES When the ten pin remains on what seems to be a good pocket hit, the fault generally lies with the bowler. Experts in the sport feel the reason for it is that the ball doesn’t have enough rolling action when it strikes the 13 pocket, or the ball may be traveling at too great a speed when it hits the pins. If you are bothered by ten-pin leaves, try giving the ball more roll, less spin, and less speed.

3) POCKET SPLITS Many bowlers are bothered by troublesome splits that occur on what should be 13 pocket hits. If this happens to you, it is an indication that the ball is “quitting”failing to finish in the proper rolling fashion. Usually this is caused by the thumb coming out of the ball too late. As a result, the ball is given inadequate finger lift. To overcome this failure, shift the position of your thumb in the ballbring it up to at least nine o’clock.

4) SPEED Speed really isn’t an all important factor in getting your scores. Control and accuracy are much more important. If you are rolling a ball that is too fast, I suggest you shorten the approach by two or three feet in order to cut down your backswing. Junie McMahon, Hall of Fame star, had almost no backswing at all, and he became one of the East’s all-time stars. If you want to generate more speed, simply increase the height of your backswing. Or, a change to a lighter ball will work, too.

5) SPARE SHOOTING Many of the more advanced bowlers stand to the left of the approach area when attempting to convert pins remaining on the left side of the lane. This is done to diminish the possibility of “chopping,” and I don’t recommend it to newcomers. The left side of the lane can be troublesome unless you have a precise understanding of just how the ball is going to react.

6) DRIFTING Drifting simply means failure to approach the foul line in a straight line. The remedies for this malady are simple. If you are drifting to the right of the approach, I suggest you keep your first step more to the left than is normally proper. If you are drifting toward the left, step off a bit to the right on your first step.

7) BALL ROLLING OVER THUMB HOLE A ball that rolls over the thumb hole sometimes causes loss of direction and thereby inaccuracy. Usually, a ball rolls in this way because the bowler turns or breaks his wrist at the time of his release. Or, again, it may be simply a case of the thumb hole not fitting properly. Always, the Index finger should be placed on the ball. But don’t be overly troubled by this. Just let your finger relax over the contour of the ball in a natural way.
