Golf flexibility Training Will Eliminate Tension In Your Golf Swing

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Golf flexibility training has come a long way. There are many more golf flexibility training stretches that can greatly impact your golf swing. Simple golf stretches, that done daily will give you a huge return on investment (your time).

There is a big difference between ‘general’ flexibility training and golf flexibility training. Just take a look at the positions the body is in during the golf swing and you’ll see many potential golf stretches you can come up with on your own.

The most common area a golfer should apply golf flexibility training is the backswing, impact and follow through.

You might be saying, “well that’s the whole swing”.

Yes…you might think so, but I’m talking about creating a golf flexibility training program that incorporates golf stretches specifically for those positions of the swing. As mentioned earlier, just take a look at the position your body is in at the top of your backswing; impact; and follow through into your finish.

There are your stretches!

It’s not rocket science to come up with golf training programs regarding both flexibility and strength. You’ve just got to use your creative side and keep the golf swing in mind when devising these golf training programs.

Tension is the biggest “killer” in the golf swing…bar none!

Most amateurs, if not all of them (us) have tension in our golf swings. Tension robs you of power. This is a known fact! A tense muscle is a slow muscle. A slow muscle produces minimal speed and ultimately power.

The key to a powerful golf swing is minimal tension and effort equals maximum distance AND accuracy.

One quick way to improve this is with a consistent golf flexibility training program done daily. This doesn’t entail 60 minutes of your time and dozens of stretches. I’m talking about 6-8 key golf flexibility training stretches taking up no more than 15 minutes per day.

Can you handle that?

I know you can. If your golf performance is important to you, you’ll make the time to get the results!

And when you step onto that course and start making effortless golf swings that go farther and straighter than ever before, you’ll know it was well worth doing your golf flexibility training.

Peyton Manning : Indianapolis Colts Quarterback

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Born in New Orleans on March 24, 1976, Peyton Manning is the son of legendary New Orleans quarterback Archie Manning and Olivia Manning. While Peyton attended high school, Archie was the color commentator for the New Orleans Saints radio station. As a youngster, Peyton would occasionally visit off-season practices with his dad. On one occasion, then Saints coach Jim Mora, allowed Peyton to work out and toss some passes to the Saints receivers. Even more unbelievable than a high school student practicing with NFL receivers is the fact that he fit in perfectly at such a young age. While attending Isidore Newman High School, Manning served as quarterback during all 3 years. At the end of his senior season, Peyton Manning was the top recruited quarterback in the nation and was named as the Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year.

Following high school graduation, Manning decided to attend the University of Tennessee where he, once again, became a star quarterback for the team. While proving his skills on the field, Peyton Manning proved that he had equal skills in the classroom. Earning a BA in speech communication and graduating with honors was important to Manning, which is why he decided to put his football career on hold until he earned his degree.

As 1998 rolled around, Manning became a candidate for the NFL draft. The Indianapolis Colts welcomed Peyton Manning as their first pick in the draft and, as they say, the rest is history. Today, Peyton Manning is the quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts where he has remained since his rookie season in the NFL.

On October 29, 2005, Manning’s #16 University of Tennessee player number was retired as he, his mom, dad and wife were on hand along with a capacity crowd prior to the University of Tennessee Volunteers game against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Everyone at Neyland Stadium watched as Manning’s number was unveiled in the endzone. From 1994 to 1997, Peyton Manning played at the University of Tennessee where he broke nearly every passing record and led the team to 39 victories. Prior to the game, Peyton’s PeyBack Foundation held a fundraiser, which raised over $12,000.00 to be used for funding grants and events involving disadvantaged youth in Knoxville.

On Friday, February 3, 2006, Peyton Manning was recognized as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. This award was named in recognition of the legendary Chicago Bears running back, Walter Payton, who passed away in 1999. This award is the only one in the league to recognize a player’s off-the-field community service in addition to his playing excellence. Connie Payton, the wife of Walter Payton, proudly presented the award. Fans around the nation celebrate Manning’s accomplishments and achievements in football and in life.

Sports Handicapping Free Pro Football Picks: Steelers – Bengals 1/8/06

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

On January 8th, 2006, the Steelers will go into Cincinnati to play the Bengals in an AFC North playoffs showdown. The Steelers have dominated the AFC North over the past decade but yielded the division title to the Bengals this season.

Both teams finished the season 11-5 but because the Bengals have a better division record, they won the division. With the Bengals having home field advantage, they should be favorites, right? Wrong. The Steelers are giving up 3.5 points. This is all based on the public perception that these Steelers are great from them going to the AFC Championship game last season. The only thing keeping the Steelers from having a better record this season was the injury to Big Ben Roethlisberger. The public knows this.

Normal football sports handicapping suggest betting on home underdogs in a division rivalry game. The public is not looking at the Bengals home field advantage and this can spell a lot of trouble to the public.

The Bengals lost the first game in this matchup this season by two TDs. The media portrayed this matchup as the litle brother-big brother rivalry where the big brother always wins. The second game between the two teams showed the Bengals dominating offensively.

The Steelers dominate with their rush defense but the Bengals strength is their passing game which will give the Bengals the edge.

I suggest taking the 3.5 points with the Bengals as our free pro football picks.

We offer great premium free pro football picks that are based on solid sports handicapping information.

Chicago Cubs Handicapping: 2006 Season Preview

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

The Cubs are expected to win the World Series every year. So I exaggerated it but Cubs fans have their hopes and dreams set on this team every year and the team always stinks it up. They are consistenly overvalued by 13 points over the past 7 seasons. Betting against them is MONEY.

Since betting odds in baseball have a lot to do with pitching, the pitchers in Chicago command great odds. The problem with that philosophy is that the team still blows. Four years ago, they were -48 units about 30 points overvalued. In this day and age, that is ridiculous.

I recommend all of you to look for spots to bet against these Cubs. They are just too overvalued by Vegas. They are overvalued the most at home. They are a total -80 units over the past 4 seasons at home as a favorite. I like to look for motivated, streaking road underdogs playing these Cubs.

6 of the past 7 seasons saw gamblers win large going against the Cubs as a home favorite. We expect the 2006 season to be no different. Bettors will always love to bet on the Cubs especially at home. We take the contrarian position because that is where the value lies.

Better Golf Solutions Start With One Simple Approach

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Better golf solutions is a mystery for the average golfer. Finding the magic bullet that’s going to cure your game overnight isn’t going to happen. In looking for better golf solutions, you’ve got to think about what’s the main reason you’re not making a sound, repeatable golf swing that generates power and accuracy?

Common approaches to better golf solutions are taking more lessons; buying new golf equipment that will hopefully make up for your swing faults (such as offset/oversized drivers and irons); purchasing training aids that promise the world, but end up in your garage gathering dust or being sold on ebay; or going to the range with a new level of practice commitment.

The six million dollar question! Did it help? Are you happy with your results?

If the answer is yes…congratulations on your success! If the answer is no, than what in the world is left? You’ve done everything right?

I want you to think real hard for a second.

What one thing is critical in swinging a club, hitting the ball square and long, and producing results?

YOU!

You dictate your outcome!

Let me explain.

You body has a current level of physical capability. It is what it is. Whatever that level is, will be your outcome. No ifs, ands, or buts about it! You will never consistently play to what you think your potential is until you improve your “physical capabilities”!

If golfers knew this little secret, they’d save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a year on lessons, gimmicky training aids, equipment and range fees.

You are an athlete! A golf athlete! You’ve got to “prepare your body to perform”.

What other athletic event do you know of where the athlete just shows up without working on his/her physical attributes?

None!

I hate to be so blunt, but it is a fact. Only until you realize this, and take it to heart will you achieve your golfing goals. Your BODY determines your outcome. Your BODY makes your golf swing. Your BODY physically plays for 18 holes. Your BODY dictates your confidence. I hope you’re getting the point here.

I can’t say this strong enough!

Take the approach like an athlete and you will never have to think of better golf solutions.

The Ironman Triathlon-Whats Your Fear Factor?

Monday, December 15th, 2008

What scares you the most about your upcoming ironman race? What’s your fear-factor?

As fit as a person is going into the first career Ironman, the fear-factor is in the equation as the big day creeps ever closer.

As cool and confident as many participants may appear, there is almost always something that fills them with a certain amount of misgiving and anxiety.

For many, the fear-factor will be overwhelming self-doubt as they wonder to themselves what on earth they have gotten themselves into. Its almost like diving off a high cliff. Once you’re committed, there’s no turning back. After all, everyone in your circle of friends family and co-workers know all about it. For months they have observed as you’ve immersed yourself in your Ironman preparation. How can you possibly back out and face the people who have supported you as you’ve prepared for the race of your life?

Well, some people can and do back out. I recall one story in the early 80’s that took place in the Hawaii Ironman.

As the story goes……..At the conclusion of the swim portion of the race and all the swimmers were off the course, it was discovered that one person was missing. In other words, someone who was signed in for the swim had not arrived. Apparently they searched the entire course with scuba divers looking for the missing swimmer and fearing the worst.

As it turns out, the missing swimmer had never entered the water. He decided he just couldn’t do it and left the transition area and went for breakfast at a local restaurant. When he returned for his gear, he asked someone what all the fuss was about and then, much to the relief of all concerned, the mystery was solved. The lesson here— If you EVER decide to drop out of an Ironman race, be sure to let the organisers know as soon as possible! They care about you and your safety.

It seems that the swim is particularly terrifying for many first time Ironman athletes. People have been known to stand on the shore in tears, unable to face the swim even long after the gun has sounded. Some have been coaxed into the water by volunteers and ended up doing just fine. Normally, just a few hundred meters into the swim, your nervousness will disappear and you’ll settle into the race.

In my first Ironman in Hawaii, I’ll never forget the amazing euphoria in the transition tent after the swim. More than anything, I believe it was relief, because for many, myself included, a very big hurdle had been cleared. As far as I was concerned that day, there was nothing that would stop me from crossing the finish line once I conquered the swim. There was no doubt, the water way my fear-factor.

I believe that most who are considering their first Ironman are runners. Also, pretty well everyone has biked at one time or another in their life, but really few have had the opportunity or reason to swim in the open water. So it stands to reason that a lot of first time Ironman triathletes are going to be extremely apprehensive about the Ironman swim.

Some I suppose may fear the bike. Maybe steep hills or cycling around so many others will cause some concern. At least in the bike and run you have complete control. You can just stop or slow down. I think its fair to say, that in the swim, once you’re half a mile out in the open water, you’re pretty well committed.

Personally, I think much of the fear-factor grows all out of proportion as the race nears. Ironman preparation is much more than swim, bike, run. You must also prepare yourself mentally.

When you begin to have doubts about your ability, or when the fear of failure begins to haunt you, its time to take a step back and consider how far you have come.

It may not seem like it on race-day, as you are surrounded by hundreds of athletes, but in the big scheme of things, few people in the world will ever attempt what you’re about to do. Believe in your training, your preparation and ability. When the fear-factor is overwhelming as the race nears—regardless if its the swim or the bike or just fear of failing—remember this:

There are hundreds of other athletes who will feel the same as you on race morning. That’s one of the things that makes the Ironman so amazing. You are all on the same journey together. The goal is a common one. It is this united spirit that will help calm the fear-factor and take you through the day. You’ll understand what I mean as your first Ironman race-day unfolds.

There will be several thousand volunteers and thousands more spectators and friends and relatives who will all play a part in your amazing journey.

They will be behind you when your fear is greatest, your inspiration when you doubt and your strength when you tire.

You are truly amazing just to reach the start line of an Ironman triathlon. Just to have gotten to that point makes you a resounding success, so how can you possibly fail?

You have erased the doubts you once had that you would even find yourself on the beach on Ironman morning awaiting the starting gun. You are in the best condition of your life and have the admiration of everyone around you as you prepare for the greatest experience of your life.

If you are about to attempt your first Ironman, may the Iron Gods of Kona, who haunt the searing lava fields of the King K. highway smile upon you and very soon welcome you into the most amazing family on earth.

Superstition in Gambling

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Superstition is rife in the gambling world. From the craps tables to the roulette wheel, you will find people who are ordinarily smart and rational people basing their gaming decisions on “feel.” While going with your gut instinct is not necessarily always irrational, in the case of making reads in poker, there is often a negative expectation correlation with superstition and gambling.

By definition, a superstition is a belief or notion not based on reason or knowledge. The idea of a superstition has been around for centuries, spanning the ages from the Roman Empire to the 21st century. People correlate certain days, objects, or actions as bringing bad luck, or being inherently flawed based on nothing other than a superstition. Even the most rational of people could likely find something they unconsciously do that is wrought from a passing superstition in the back of their minds.

In gaming, superstition is extremely prevalent, and can be observed in is naturalistic environment, the casino. If one walks past the craps table, you may see people snapping their fingers as they roll, arranging the dice in a certain fashion they feel is more lucky, or performing some kind of routine every time they roll, believing it will bring them luck. One could prove by studying a large sample size of people with superstitions that over the long run, their success or failure correlates with statistical significance based on the expectation of the bets they place, rather than their individual routines based on superstition.

In the card room, poker players may believe they always lose when a particular dealer begins his shift. This may be a result of a self-fulfilling prophecy, as the poker player believes he will be less lucky with the specific dealer pitching the cards, and will consequently play his hands more tentatively, enabling more draw outs. A player may ask to switch the deck every time he loses a hand. He may switch it out 20 hands in a row before he wins a hand, but on that last switch, he will believe he was correct in changing the deck. It may not occur to him that if he had not switched out the deck on the other 20 hands that he may have won some of those hands.

Over the long run, superstitious people are likely to lose more, because they are basing some of their decisions not on facts and reason, but on irrational fears with no basis of logic. The more superstitious you are, the more likely you are to shut your mind off and blindly place bets without proper forethought. By breaking yourself of this habit, and rationalizing each situation you put yourself in as you hopefully would in your day to day life, you will come out on top more often than you otherwise would.

Catapulting Humans via Laser Launches

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Remember as a kid those human cannons, which used a gunpowder explosion to launch a citizen under the Big Circus Tents? As a kid you were amazed that they could shoot a man across the room? Well it appears that others are now looking into this and considering it as a way to launch humans up many stories to rescue people in burning buildings? Sounds a lot like some Super Man trick doesn’t it? Well you know this is actually possible. How so you ask? Well using lasers to launch these humans of course.

By superheating the gas under a pump in a confined tube the pressure will expand so fast that it will push the pump platform along with its slider at a high rate shooting the human in the human cannon. Sounds great hop in; not me you say? Why not; it is perfectly safe providing you have a safe place to land. Can we use laser-fired cannons to shoot people into the sky? Well, consider if you will a cone shape with the tip pointed on the bottom of the platform holding the person. Then you could shoot the laser into a gas, which would expand like the piston of an engine sending the human astronaut as far as you wanted too.

You could shoot human paratroopers into enemy territories and when they reached the optimum altitude they could pop the shoot and float down? Literally leaping over the enemy and hitting them from behind and sense the people are organic they would not be able to be shot down by heat seeking missiles. Consider all this in 2006.

Why Hunt? Part 3

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

I have already gone over the primitive inspiration of hunting wild game. I also have discussed the expense and the inconvenience of being a hunter (see “Why Hunt?” and “Why Hunt? Part 2.”) So, to go further into detail about this fascination, need, or what ever you call it, I would like to present some more ideas on why hunting big game, or even small game, is so important.

The fact is, nature is much bigger than man, and when man is hunting he is at nature’s mercy. To overcome something more powerful than you, like a bear or an elk, or track and kill a wildcat, or call ducks back that are flying away from you, is an absolute rush. The kill brings the reward, satisfaction of victory, which is due to your excellent skills and it provides your trophy.

Speaking of killing a wildcat brings up another reason for hunting: defense. A wildcat may be harmful to people and other animals such as cattle. Many varmints are a nuisance and need control.

Along these lines is environmental control. Hunting is usually regulated to the benefit of the animals. Over population can be a problem in the wild. Cold winters can leave starving and dying animals. Controlled hunting actually saves the animals.

Hunting also puts you in touch with nature. Being in the great outdoors can revitalize your inner self spiritually, mentally and emotionally. You will see things on hunting trips that you will not see in society. These things bring a much wider range of experiences into your life and help to sharpen your senses.

Hunting is a great way to commune with family and friends, as well as make new friends. It’s a great way to ‘get away from it all.’

Many people love to hunt because they love owning and training hunting dogs. Training hunting dogs can be quite enjoyable and rewarding. Some people like to hunt on horseback, with or without dogs.

There is so much variety in hunting that you could probably never master everything. Rifle hunting is definitely not the only style. Some love bow hunting, some are trappers, and some just hunt for photography.

There are a lot of things a hunter can learn to make for a better outdoor experience. This keeps the interest up as there is always more to learn; survival skills, tracking skills, how to use hunting gear like scopes, bird calls, elk calls, camouflage, scents and so on.

Last on my list, but certainly not least is hunting for food. I saved it until last because I’m not sure the cost of the hunting trip justifies the meal. But if you like wild game, hunting in the wild is the answer. You are not likely to find venison stew and bar-b-qued wild javelina at your grocer. A supermarket’s frozen turkey cannot compare to a fresh turkey taken from the wild.

No wonder hunting, whether for big game like elk, deer or bear, or small game like squirrel or rabbit, or fowl like duck, geese or dove, is so popular.
