Making Algebra Understandable

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

What is Algebra?

It is an area of mathematics that use letter of the alphabets in replacement of numbers to derive results for a given situation. It is this abstraction that often frightens many and shudders some. topics of algebra extend from working with inequalities to factoring binomials all the way to finding the inverse of a matrix. Most people start to try Algebra by adding, subtracting, reducing and simplifying fractions. They then move on to understanding equivalent fractions, finding Least Common Multiples (LCM) and converting fractions to decimals.

Oh no! It’s Exponents, Radicals and Graphing

There are many advanced themes. First there are exponents. An exponent is the little number placed to the right and slightly above a number or algebraic expression. An example is (x + y)3 where the 3 is the exponent and denotes the power to which that number is raised. The above algebraic expression is expressed as, x plus y to the third power. While working with exponents you will often come across exercises that require you to add, subtract, multiply and divide. If you pick up the basics, you will soon get down to working with rational and negative exponents and if you think those are not challenging enough, hopefully complex number will spin your head. A radical, in simple terms, is the reversing of an power. Radical expressions are denoted by the symbol “V” and when placed beside number 4, it is read as square root of 4, which is equal to 2. The inverse of “V” symbol is “^” which denotes that the number it refers to is a multiple of the principle number. Therefore, 2^2 which is read as 2 to the 2nd power, equals 4. Moreover, exponents can be added, subtracted, multiplied or divided by radicals. Radicals can be converted into exponents and powers back into radicals. If you find that powers and roots don’t really perk up your interest, you could move on to graphing. The best way to start with graphing is to draw lines and try to figure out if they are horizontal, vertical or neither. Does the line have an x-intercept or a y-intercept? Can you find the slope of the line? After you master graphing lines, a whole world of circles, parabolas and hyperbolas awaits you!

Help is Out There

If you are learning algebra and this all seems a little too much, don’t fret. Did you know that there are many resources out there that can help you master non-linear inequalities, quadratic formulas and polynomials. The tradition is to settle for a math tutor, but the cutting-edge algebraic software are no different. In fact, they are better than math tutors. You can also use algebra calculators or algebra solvers. any of these tools can assist you become an algebra expert in no time.

Chelsea Run Away with the English Premiership Football Title

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

The seemingly invincible Chelsea FC look set to record their second consecutive Premiership soccer title after a convincing 2-0 defeat of Liverpool FC.

Now 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League, Chelsea barring catastrophe will be champions again. This is in no small way due to their enigmatic manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese master tactician has instilled a belief of invincibility in his team that is rarely seen.

Many fans of English football may point to the fact that Mourinho has spent vast amounts of his Chairman’s money to attain this position, but that is not the reason for Chelsea’s success. The credit must go to Mourinho, the man they call “The Special One”. He continues to make the correct selections, and more importantly, his interventions from the sidelines are rarely innefective. He is the consummate professional.

Chelsea seem set to embark on a domination of the English game, and as long as Mourinho is in charge, they will continue to set the benchmark. Whether they can go on to dominate the European tournaments in the same way is a question soon to be answered, they certainly have the talent and the right man at the helm, but Europe is difficult to conquer.

The forthcoming Champions league games are awaited with baited breath…

The Need For Speed In Soccer

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Soccer players are athletes, but unlike a 100m runner where there is explosive speed for 10 seconds in a straight line, there are many other abilities that soccer players need to develop.

Here are 5 key soccer related speed abilities that you should develop in your players.

#1 – Speed of thought

Soccer players have a great deal to concentrate on. There senses are constantly being blitzed with information, which they need to quickly decipher. Here are some examples:

- Where opponents are positioned

- Actions of their team mates

- What’s infront of them and their peripheral vision

- The conditions of the pitch and the weather

- The noise from team mates, crowd, coaches and opponents

- Their tactical position and the strategy of the team

#2 – Speed of anticipation

Some players have a great reading of the game. I have a friend who although he is now in his late 40’s early 50’s still plays regularly and competes well with players half his age!

How does he do this… because he’s played soccer all his life at professional and international level he has built a huge database in his brain of playing situations, player characteristics, tactical situations etc. and he is able to draw on this which gives him superb speed of anticipation.

Sure for explosiveness and reaction times the younger players would win every time, but as the old saying goes…”the first couple of yards are in the head!”.

So here it is important that players develop a knack of interpreting the actions of the opponents and what that means to the games development.

#3 – Speed of reaction

As mentioned in the last bullet, speed of reaction is vital.

Anticipation is one thing, being able to react quickly is another.

Consider the role of the goal keeper, their reaction time to a sudden shot, deflection, switch in angle of attack, flight of the ball must be very acute.

But how does a goal keeper react and what to? In this instance, the goal keeper will react to a number of external stimuli, here’s a list:

- The visual element of the opponent with the ball, are they carrying it, have they got backlift as if ready to strike the ball, is the opponent in space and is their a clear line of sight on goal

- The auditory element, do they hear the strike of the ball, is it fizzing, does it take a deflection of a player (thud), a shout from a team mate, maybe a close opponent barracking the goalie ” he’s going to shoot!”

All of these stimuli will have an effect on the player.

Once stimulated the player should choose the best option available to them to react to that situation.

Again we will use the goalie;

If a shot is fizzing towards them low and hard, the pitch is wet and quick, and there are a number of players the ball has to go through before hitting the target, do they get down low anticipating a clear strike on goal, have quick feet and get their body in line with the expected flight path, do they dive towards the ball, kneel or hack the ball?

The answer to this question lies in the ability, confidence and experience of the player.

#4 Speed of feet

Here we are talking about the basic running / sprinting motor skills.

Initial explosion and acceleration are vital to covering the ground quickly. Speed of feet is without the ball, and since it is without the ball it is rarely in a straight line.

Therefore, as a players progress is often inhibited by other players they must adjust and change direction in relation to their team mates actions and those of the opponents.

Explosive speed is generated from the leg muscles stretching and contracting to achieve maximum power, but good running technique, driving through the arms and co-ordination are also vital.

#5 Skill speed

Watching a player run at pace and carry the ball is a truly awesome sight.

Sprinting full out while keeping possession and holding off any challenges from opponents to dribble and create an opportunity to shoot at goal is a tremendous ability.

This key skill though is still built on the last point which is speed of feet.

However, while a player may be very quick is only advantageous if their ball manipulation and technical skills are as up to speed as their pace (pardon the pun).

So, what can you do to help coach the 5 key speed principles?

#1 Speed of thought – enable players to make their own decisions, that means give them lots of opportunites to make choices. Condition games so that it forces them to think.

Play soccer games with them, don’t just do drill work. By playing games they will also gain experience which help them build their database from which to draw on.

Keep them motivated, players will not think unless they are motivated and stimulated to do so. Finally, let them be free of any fear and stress of making wrong decisions.

#2 Speed of anticipation – play more soccer, coach them through the game.

Ask plenty of questions on how they are reading the game development.

Offer your insights into positions they have taken up in relation to opponents advances, both strengths and weaknesses.

#3 Speed of reaction – use reaction balls, have goal keeper starting positions with their back to play and react to shots, play rebounds off walls.

Try not to use your whistle or command as the key for the reaction as this wouldn’t happen in a real game so don’t practice this way.

#4 Speed of feet – always, always warm the muscles up before doing any speed work!

Do some sprints, keep it high intensity with short sharp bursts. Develop good running technique with the use of speed ladders and hurdles.

Try using some different starting positions to like standing, from a jump and land, on their back, on their stomach, incorporate turns, feints and directional changes.

#5 Skill speed – make your training as game related as possible, focusing on speed with the ball, movement, game related distances and challenge.

Hopefully this has given you some good food for thought, enjoy your training!

Realistic Odds of Winning the Euro Millions and Does Any Player Stand a Real Chance

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

The chances of scooping up the euro millions jackpot is a remote one : seventy six million but the likelihood of winning a money prize is a fairly decent one in 24. When the jack-pot is not won on a given week, it is brought forward to the next week which results in an ever increasing jackpot prize. New rules brought in on the 9/02/2007 limit the amount of consecutive rollovers to eleven, with the jackpot rolled down to smaller prize levels succeeding the eleventh draw if the prize is not won.

The Euromillions lotto or the Euro lotto, as it is commonly recognized, pools the ticket receipts of the 9 partaking Euro countries giving a enormous Euro lottery jack-pot. With the number of countries joining the Euro on the increase, that will without question will lead to more states partaking in the EuroMillions lotto. An increase in the amount of people partaking in the European Lotto will lead to a continuing growth of the already huge Euro Millions jackpots.

The recent rules also initiated European Lottery Super-Draw which come about twice each year plus they offer jackpots in the region of 100 million pounds. The difference with Super Draws is that the jack-pot must be collected during the calendar week of the draw; this means, if there is no lotto ticket matching, all the drawn numbers then the top prize will be allotted to the lotto ticket bearer(s) on the next winning prize level.

Each and every participant must select 5 main numbers from one to fifty and 2 Lucky Star numbers from one to nine. During the lottery draw, five main and 2 lucky-star numbers are then selected at random from two lottery draw machines containing numbered balls.

Snowboarding Breaks for the Carbon Minded Snowboarder

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Many keen skiers will presently be trying to find their ski equipment and dashing forth hunting for the heaviest snow. And beyond any doubt the result from your carbon footprint will be about as far down the list of holiday essentials as a Christmas tree after Christmas. Just last winter, a late snow made the the tabloids and holidaymakers were panicky about the flecks of snow melting almost as soon as they put down.

Ski business Chalet 1802, placed at the bottom of Monte Bianco in Chamonix in the Alps, is one of the first autonomous businesses to go carbon neutral and give skiers an environmentally friendly choice whilst organising their skiing holidays. Chalet1802 owner Charlyn stated: Last season was quite a surprise with the hottest wintertime in 55 years in the French Alps. Ski skiing areas like Auron, Les Trois Vall©es and La Tania lacked clients. It was balmy and the snow did not last so much of the early winter ski season in the mountains was limited. We decided to go carbon neutral to assist in the preservation the snowboarding resort.

Charlyn said: We are not attempting to dictate to punters but we think it is of import to afford them the choice without increasing the price of the skiing holiday. When the guest book with us and goes to our skiing chalet they may more than off set their carbon footprint and we soak up the other prices. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub – people wish for luxuriousness but not at the expense of the surroundings, so we looked at ways of lessening the results of someone flying over here for a skiing holiday.”

Chalet 1802 have moreover partnered with group Climate Care, who attacks global warming by making carbon dioxide deductions for individuals and companies.

Golf Carts: An Evolution on the Golf Course

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

At one point in time, the use of a golf cart was something only the somewhat wealthy could enjoy on a golf course. Those who were not able to afford the use of a golf cart often found themselves hauling their clubs over their shoulder as they walked the golf course. Well, times have changed.

Golf carts are now the standard at almost all golf courses throughout the country. Very seldom do golfers carry their clubs over their shoulder anymore. Unfortunately, some recreational golfers like to treat the course golf cart like a toy rather than a purposeful mode of transportation. Often times, you can witness wreckless behavior exchanged between recreational golfers and the use of their golf carts. However, this is one minor annoyance as a result of the golf cart gaining popularity.

Typically, golf carts are available for rent from the course clubhouse. Most golfers take advantage of this service. An alternative, if you have the money, would be to buy your own golf cart. However, this is costly, but you will not need to pay rent for a golf cart whenever you go to the course.

Golf carts are available for purchase either new or used. New golf carts can be purchased from anywhere from about $4000 to $11,000 dollars. Many factors attribute to the cost, such as model, seating capacity, and any additional options that may be available. There are two types of golf cart engines, gas engine or electric engine.

An alternative to new golf carts would be to purchase a used golf cart. Used golf carts are alot cheaper than new ones, and typically you can find a sufficient golf cart for less than $3000. Buying a used golf cart can be alot like buying a used car. You will need to thoroughly inspect it inside and out. Make sure to ask the owner any questions you may have about the golf cart. Always make sure to take it for a test drive before committing to a purchase.

As an author at eZ-search, Chris Miller contributes to the growing content found within the site and shares his knowledge about golf carts.

Caps Gowns

During graduation ceremonies, one of the most noticeable things happens to be the dress of the students graduating. The academic garments which include official caps, gowns and hoods are a symbol of achievement and are worn with pride and honor. It is not yet established where exactly the dress originates but it is said to have been influenced by ancient church garb that was worn by the clergy. The
caps gowns

and hood also represent transition of students from the world of academia and into the normal world. This Caps, gowns and hoods come in various colors, sizes and materials with some institutions allowing students to purchase their own academic dress. However, even if this is the case, a standard color scheme is normally upheld with institutions often having their own colors. The academic dress can also be accessorized with stoles or academic cords which have specific significance according to an individual’s achievements or affiliation. The caps and gowns are usually similar in color but the gown may be adorned with different colored trimmings, may be decorative or which have specific significance. If one is purchase a customized cap or gown, it is important to give one’s correct measurement in order to have a perfect fit.

Betting Games Betting Maniacs Engage in: a Simple Guide to Gambling Saloon Taking Chances

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

On the assumption that you casino games of chance, be sure to peruse this —

For clarity’s sake: a betting saloon is a house that features gambling. Here, customers may gamble handling the coin-operated machines or different games of luck. Gaming hall games usually include fully transparent probabilities included that make sure the betting house grasps on to its interest against the gambling aficionados.

A huge number of gaming room games can sway you into getting hooked quickly. Let’s look at the stereotypical one-armed bandit, a cash operated contraption with three plus drums that rotate once an arm attached to it is manipulated. This gadget usually reimburses according to predefined patterns of glyphs seen on the screen of the gadget. Sadly, gambling house games put forward the fantasy of manageability, effectively conning the gambling aficionado – the victim is awarded choices, but they won’t realistically compensate for the gamer’s fundamental odds. That is caused by the the casino never paying the full amount as expected. This systematic arrangement is again and again noticeable in acclaimed casino games such as five-card stud, dice, roulette or blackjack.

Five card stud is really an immensely popular casino game. The betting aficionados, religiously guarding their fully screened hands, must place bets into a central pot that is finally given to the last participant enjoying the winning hand. (Obviously, the best bluffing hand may win as well.)

online casino gambling

Analogous to seven card stud, blackjack too is a very trendy casino game. A great deal of its acceptance is caused by its peculiar mix of chance and talent and decision making, not to forget a method dubbed Card Counting. This is a skill by which gaming enthusiasts can bend the arm of chance of the card game in their favor both by betting and strategic actions in accordance with the hands shown.

“Craps” is yet another well known wagering game where punters will place bets on the throw of two dice. Gamers have to place their stakes on the score of one cycle, or on a series of rolls on two dice. Contrary to blackjack, there just isn’t any feasible winning betting system players can make capital of to boost the odds.

Roulette is another notable casino game; a croupier turns a roulette wheel accomodating precisely 37 (European roulette) or, respectively precisely 38 (in the case of American or Vegas roulette) differently tagged places in which a rolling pellet will settle, which decides on the winner as well as the respective odds. When our gamester has put money on a single number and actually is successful, which is to say it’s actually successful, the return is 35:1, the original wager will be returned. Ergo in totality the original stake is multiplied by thirty six.
