Surfing Fashions
If you’ve never tried surfing before, or never lived in a town where surfing is a popular sport, then you may not know about the style and fashions associated with it. Surfwear and surf style exists all over the world, regardless of an area’s proximity to the beach or surfing spot. Brands such as Volcom, Quiksilver, Rusty, and Hurley are all popular and well-respected, but there are up and coming names being thrown into the mix as well.
The basic fashion piece associated with surfing are mens board shorts. This type of swimwear differs from the short or tight varieties you might expect to see elsewhere on the beach or at the pool. These look more like everyday shorts, but sit low at the hips, usually with a criss-cross drawstring at the front. They are baggy and almost hit the knees.
Another style common to the surfing population are flip flops of course. Whether they are rubber, leather, or nylon flip flops, there are hundreds of styles to choose from, all of which are comfortable, stylish, and easy to slip on after a day of surfing or simply wandering around town in the summer. On the opposite side of the scale, Uggs (the fur-lined boots that have become hugely popular in recent years) were invented by an Australian surfer who wanted something warm to wear on the beach after a surf session in cold water.
